After much excited, curious, and positive feedback regarding The Artists Way, I have decided to start a book club for the duration of the twelve week course (plus an extra week or two at the end for catch ups, chit chats, and afterthoughts).
To answer some of your questions (here and social media) the book is set up with weekly theme that look something like this:
- Week 1: Recovering a Sense of Safety
- Week 2: Recovering a Sense of Identity
- Week 3: Recovering a Sense of Power
- Week 4: Recovering a Sense of Integrity
- Week 5: Recovering a Sense of Possibility
- Week 6: Recovering a Sense of Abundance
- Week 7: Recovering a Sense of Connection
- Week 8: Recovering a Sense of Strength
- Week 9: Recovering a Sense of Compassion
- Week 10: Recovering a Sense of Self Protection
- Week 11: Recovering a Sense of Autonomy
- Week 12: Recovering a Sense of Faith
Each weeks readings (around 16 pages or so) come with a set of ten tasks to complete throughout the week, you are also required to spend around half an hour each morning writing three ‘morning pages’. These pages are just flowing, non-sensical brain matter designed to ignite your creativity. There are also opportunities to take yourself on ‘Artists Date’ which is permission to do something that inspires you each week. At the end of the week there are three ‘check in’ reflective questions to complete. So far I have been spending around one and a half hours a day on the program, half an hour in the morning, and one hour at night thinking about and answering questions, and doing some additional inspirational reading (this has been my choice and I will share on Sunday). You could easily spend one hour a day on it and get enough out of it.
For the duration of the course I will be writing a post about my weeks activities, discoveries, and
failures learning opportunities here on the blog each Sunday. I know a few of you are keen to join in, some wanted to join but weren’t sure about the time commitment, and others were just keen to have a sneaky peek look at how the program works. Whatever your decision it will lovely to have you on board even if it is just as a bystander.
Those interested in joining, no need to worry if you are a little behind getting your hands on a copy of the book (or signing up for the online course). The whole idea of the Artist’s Way is about being kind to yourself and getting creative, so it really doesn’t matter what weeks tasks we a discussing, they don’t have to be perfectly aligned. We can create our own way there.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences on the program and will ‘check in’ with you on Sunday.
Go forth and create xxx
