Western Australia is currently conducting a trial ‘shark culling’ program until the 30th of April that sees any sharks larger than three meters caught a kilometre off the metro and south coast on drum lines, shot and dumped out to sea. Sharks are already under threat from ‘finning’ activities and the greens believe that the culling program was a PR ‘stunt’ from the beginning rather than a response to protect public safety, and that it will have a damaging effect on vulnerable shark species. Earlier this week the Greens announced they will introduce a private bill ‘as soon as possible’ to end the shark cull. Lets hope it’s sooner rather than too late!
