DIY BEAUTY
Hey good lookin’!
Fashionistas with sustainable living goals don’t need to give up having glowing goddess skin for the sake of skipping out on chemical filled, over-packaged beauty products. It’s really easy to whip up some beauty DIY’s from the comfort of your own kitchen. Let’s have a look at a couple of recipes you should be able to make from the contents of your pantry or fridge.
Zingy Lemon Lip Scrub
Whether you have plush and pouty lips like Angelina Jolie or just regular ol’ kissers lips can get chapped with wind and sun exposure. Keep yours in good shape (and ready to slid on the lipstick) with a pantry friendly lip scrub.
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
1 tablespoon honey
Mix all these goodies together (white sugar will be a finer scrub, brown will be coarser), prep your lips by holding a warm wet face cloth on them for 20 seconds, then use the scrub to lightly exfoliate. Once you have gently buffed your lips, wipe the excess scrub off with a face cloth. Lemon is an acidic active, the sugar is the abrasive exfoliant, and the honey is a nourishing antibacterial binder. If you are vegan you can replace the honey with cooled coconut oil (but it melts fast when in contact with the skin so work quick). You can keep remaining scrub in the fridge for a couple of weeks and you can use it on other parts of the body too (just don’t scrub your face with it, the sugar will be too abrasive).
Game, Set, Matcha.
Looking for smooth and hydrated skin in a hurry? This quick recipe contains minimal amount of ingredients for maximum benefit. Loaded with good fats, vitamins and antioxidants the short amount of time you spend looking like a swap monster will be worth it for how firm, lush, and ready-to-party you skin will feel afterwards.
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Matcha (depending on how rich you are and if you want face coverage, or face and décolletage).
Half a ripe avocado
Half a teaspoon of almond oil
Mash your blend your avocado (the more blended the less chunks you will have to deal with on your skin… I’m obviously a bit lazy) mix in the matcha and the almond oil and apply your cleansed skin. Spend 15 minutes doing something relaxing (i’m getting a vitamin D fix in the sun). Then wash off gently with lukewarm water. Pat dry. Your skin will benefit from the hydrating benefits of Avocado. Full of vitamin A, and E this super fruit will revive the skin and help combat the effects of everyday sun and pollutant exposure. Matcha is green tea that has been dried and finely ground. Using it on the skin delivers a powerful punch of antioxidants some of which aid in reducing redness and inflammation. Almond oil is nourishing to the skin and aids in spreading the mask.
Just a little proviso before you create these. Just because they are natural doesn’t mean allergy free. Patch test to make sure you aren’t sensitive before apply to your whole face or lips! Nothing worse than finding out your are allergic after you have coated your whole face!
